Germantown woman wins $50000 Pick 5 prize using late husband’s ZIP code
Germantown, MD — A Montgomery County woman scored a $50,000 Maryland Lottery win using a Pick 5 number with deep personal meaning — her late husband’s ZIP code.
The retired federal worker matched all five digits in the January 8 midday drawing with the number 20871, the postal code for Clarksburg, where her late husband once lived. She had only been playing the number for a few months when it delivered the top prize on a $1 straight bet ticket.
She was at home checking results on her phone when she realized she had hit a perfect match.
“I couldn’t believe it. I was so happy when I saw that,” she said while claiming the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore on January 9.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Liberty gas station at 23300 Clarksburg Road. The retailer will receive a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize winning ticket.
The woman has not yet decided how she will spend the money but said the win felt like a sign from her late husband.
