Ohio woman wins same lottery prize three times in one day

Lorain woman wins Pick 5 jackpot three times in one day for $75K haul

LORAIN, OH – A Lorain woman defied astronomical odds and pulled off a lottery hat trick, winning the Ohio Pick 5 jackpot not once, not twice — but three times in a single evening.

E., whose full name was not released, purchased three separate tickets with the same number — 8-0-3-1-7 — for the Saturday evening drawing. Each ticket, including a straight bet and a 120-way box, hit for a jackpot of $25,208.50, bringing her total windfall to $75,625 in a matter of minutes.

All three tickets were bought at Lorain Smokes and Beverage on N. Ridge Rd., a convenience stop that is now generating buzz among hopeful lotto players.

With odds of 1 in 100,000 to hit a straight Pick 5, winning just once is a long shot. But winning three times on the same draw with the exact same numbers is a statistical rarity — though not impossible when the same combination is played multiple times.

After taxes totaling 26.75%, E. will take home $55,395.32 in winnings.

Pick 5 is one of Ohio Lottery’s twice-daily games, drawn at 12:29 p.m. and 7:29 p.m. every day except Saturday evenings, when the draw airs during the Cash Explosion Game Show.

The Ohio Lottery, which began in 1974, has contributed more than $34 billion to education across the state. The winning moment adds another page to the book of lottery surprises — and another reason for players to try their luck at the next drawing.
