Dozens of shots fired as Reading street turns into shooting scene

Gunfire erupts near alleged after hours club leaving two men wounded in Reading

Reading, PA — A burst of early morning gunfire near a suspected after-hours gathering left two men wounded and multiple vehicles riddled with bullets, as investigators work to piece together what sparked the violence.

Officers responded around 6:18 a.m. Sunday to the 1700 block of Muhlenberg Street after receiving reports of individuals firing weapons, according to the Reading Police Department.

When officers arrived, they discovered numerous spent shell casings scattered across the area along with several vehicles that had been struck by gunfire.

A 21-year-old man later arrived at Reading Hospital with a gunshot wound to the upper torso. Hours later, a 31-year-old man was reported with a gunshot wound to the arm. Police believe both shootings are connected to the same incident.

Preliminary findings indicate the violence may have originated at an unpermitted after-hours club operating in the area, though details about the gathering and those involved have not been released.

No arrests have been announced as the investigation remains active.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Reading Police Department at 610-655-6116 or Crime Alert Berks at 877-373-9913.
