NJ man arrested after bullet fired into apartment window

Driveway gunfire suspect nabbed weeks later with cache of weapons

Hackensack, NJ — A single gunshot fired into a residential window last month led to a multi-agency investigation and the arrest of a New Jersey man found with multiple firearms and ammunition, authorities said.

The incident occurred on March 16 at approximately 7:49 p.m., when an individual entered the driveway of a home on Broadway and fired a round of 9mm ammunition through an apartment window. No injuries were reported.

Following an investigation led by Detective Demetrius Carroll and the Hackensack Police Detective Bureau, 42-year-old Kenneth G. Chin of Ridgefield Park was identified as the suspect.

On Monday, members of Hackensack’s Emergency Service Unit arrested Chin in Jersey City while detectives simultaneously executed a search warrant at his residence on Winant Avenue in Ridgefield Park.

During the search, authorities recovered a Keltec Sub2000 semi-automatic carbine, a Sig Sauer P365 9mm pistol, and approximately 200 rounds of ammunition.

Chin was charged with multiple offenses, including possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, certain persons prohibited from weapons possession, criminal mischief, and hindering apprehension.

He was processed and remanded to the Bergen County Jail on a complaint warrant and is awaiting his first court appearance in Hackensack.

Officials said the charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Police credited assistance from Bergen County Regional SWAT, Ridgefield Park Police, Jersey City Police, and Bergen County Animal Control, which secured a dog from the residence during the operation.
