Pennsylvania office manager charged after alleged country club money grab

APOLLO, Pa. — A former Pennsylvania country club office manager is accused of stealing more than $300,000 over several years while secretly intercepting IRS notices, failing to pay taxes and allegedly removing shredded documents from the property in the middle of the night.

Westmoreland County detectives charged 57-year-old Laurie Voyten of Vandergrift following an investigation into missing funds tied to Willowbrook Country Club.

Investigators said the probe began in March after club officials discovered major financial discrepancies and suspected Voyten, who previously handled accounting operations for the club, was responsible.

According to detectives, the club learned in August that payroll taxes had not been paid to the IRS since sometime in 2017.

Officials said Voyten served as office manager until resigning by phone in the fall of 2025.

Detectives said Voyten had direct access to cash, controlled vendor and employee setup and was solely responsible for recording transactions within the club’s accounting system.

A newly elected treasurer who took over financial oversight in October 2024 reportedly uncovered unpaid taxes and inconsistencies within the club’s finances.

Investigators allege IRS letters were intercepted over several years while local taxes allegedly had not been filed since 2018. Detectives also said multiple vendors had gone unpaid.

According to investigators, security footage reviewed by club employees allegedly showed Voyten entering and leaving the club during overnight hours while carrying bags of shredded documents to her vehicle.

Detectives said $304,587 remains unaccounted for and believe the thefts occurred between 2020 and 2025.

Voyten now faces charges including misapplying entrusted funds, theft, theft by unlawful taking and tampering with public records.

Authorities stressed the charges are accusations and Voyten is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
