Mayor hill, council celebrate pride day with rainbow flag raising ahead of weekend event

TOMS RIVER, NJ – Toms River Mayor Maurice Hill and some members of the Township Council celebrated the ceremonial raising of the LGBTQ+ rainbow flag high above town hall today. The flag-raising and annual LGBTQ+ pride event that started in 2019 continues as June is Pride Month nationwide.

“The Pride flag (or rainbow flag) has six colors. Red represents life, orange is for healing, yellow is sunshine, green means nature, blue represents harmony, and purple is spirit. The flag will fly through the month of June to honor Pride Month,” said Hill’s press secretary Art Gallagher.

Gallagher said Mayor Hill was joined by Council President Kevin Geoghegan, Council Vice-President Matt Lotano, Councilmen Dave Ciccozzi, Josh Kopp and Jim Quinlisk, former Councilman Terrance Turnbach, Business Administrator Lou Amoruso and Lexi Davenport and Billy Cardone.

The Toms River Pride Event is Saturday, June 11 from 11am till 5 PM on Washington Street. Toms River Pride started in 2019 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. Toms River Pride is an annual festival with an opening ceremony, 100+ vendors and partners, and entertainment, 3,400+ attendees visit Downtown Toms River for the event.
