EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NJ – A policeman’s job is never done. That was evident Thursday as Egg Harbor Police Officer Jeremiah Simmons was coaching his flag football team while off-duty at the Veterans Memorial Park near H.R. Swift Elementary School.
Coach Simmons became Officer Simmons on the spot and responded after being alerted that a child need aid after falling off nearby monkey bars.
“Officer Simmons ran over, called for assistance and rendered aid to the child while he waited with the family for EMS to arrive,” the department said in a statement thanking him for his kindness. “This week, the family contacted our agency with a special request from the child for Officer Simmons to sign his cast. Officer Simmons was honored to do so.”
