BERNARDS TOWNSHIP, NJ – A tense situation in Bernards Township ended Monday morning peacefully.
According to Bernards Township Chief of Police, Jon Burger, officers successfully maneuvered to a peaceful resolution of an armed barricaded person following a police response to a residence.
Officers responded to an emotional disturbance at a residence located on Goltra Drive in Basking Ridge, on Monday at approximately 9:45 a.m. After responding Bernards Township officers arrived at the residence, the resident, who authorities are not identifying, barricaded himself in the bathroom with a loaded firearm.
A Bernards Township police officer initiated and engaged the barricaded subject in conversation to compel him to surrender, according to the prosecutor.
In response to the request at approximately 12:55 p.m., the Somerset County SWAT team and Crisis Negotiators Team responded to the residence
When the armed subject exited the bathroom around 3:15 p.m., a Somerset County SWAT officer used a TASER to control him, causing him to drop his weapon.
Additional SWAT officers were able to control the subject without further incident. There were no injuries to any parties involved, and the subject was turned over to medical personnel for transport to a medical facility for evaluation.
