BROOKLYN, NY – Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced on Thursday that Romeo Borneo, 63, of Prospect Lefferts Gardens, was sentenced to 19 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision for killing his ex-girlfriend, Erica Renaud, 47.
Borneo pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter on April 3, 2023.
According to evidence presented in court, on November 13, 2018, Borneo called the police after an altercation with Renaud, claiming he had been cut. Upon arriving at the scene, police found Borneo with cuts on his wrist and discovered Renaud’s body under a pile of blood-stained bedding and pillows on the living room floor, her throat having been slashed.
A broken, blood-stained knife was later found in the garbage.
District Attorney Gonzalez stated that the lengthy prison sentence represents a step toward justice for Renaud’s family and friends, holding Borneo responsible for his vicious actions that led to the tragic death of an innocent woman and mother.
