WASHINGTON, D.C. – A major breakthrough in a homicide case has been achieved by the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch as they announce the extradition and charging of a suspect for a fatal shooting in Northeast D.C.
The case dates back to November 16th when officers were called to the 2200 block of New York Avenue at around 5:16 p.m., following reports of a shooting. On arrival, they discovered 38-year-old Carlos Javier-Blanco Fernandez, who sadly succumbed to gunshot injuries at a local hospital.
In a coordinated effort, the United States Marshals Task Force apprehended 23-year-old Eliexander Lopez-Burgos in Glendale, Colorado, on December 4th under a DC Superior Court arrest warrant. Following the extradition process, Lopez-Burgos was brought back to Washington, D.C., and on January 4, 2024, MPD’s Fugitive Unit formally charged him with First Degree Murder while Armed (Premeditated).
