The Richmond Police Department (RPD) is mourning the loss of retired police K-9 Sara, a distinguished narcotics detection dog who served the community for ten years before her retirement in 2021.
K-9 Sara, alongside her handler Officer Robinson, was recognized for her exceptional service and dedication. She was highly regarded by her fellow officers and other law enforcement agencies. Throughout her career, Sara and Officer Robinson were recipients of numerous awards, acknowledging their significant contributions to public safety and law enforcement.
One of the most notable achievements was in 2019, when they received a Certificate of Appreciation from the United States Postal Inspection Office. Their collaborative efforts led to the seizure of substantial amounts of narcotics and over $100,000 in cash, linked to criminal activities. This intervention not only led to several arrests but also played a crucial role in protecting postal employees from exposure to dangerous substances.
K-9 Sara was known for her strong work ethic and eagerness to serve. Beyond her professional duties, she was also cherished for her playful nature and the joy she brought to her family. For Officer Robinson and the RPD, Sara was more than just a partner; she was a beloved member of the family.
