Car Service Driver Shot During Attempted Robbery in Philadelphia’s Germantown Neighborhood

A car service driver was shot in the chest after arriving to pick up a passenger when an armed teenager allegedly attempted to rob him, police said.

Philadelphia, PA – A car service driver is recovering after he was shot during an attempted robbery in Philadelphia’s Germantown neighborhood Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Officers from the 14th District initially responded at approximately 12:09 p.m. to the 5700 block of Boyer Street for a report of a stabbing. When they arrived, they found an adult man suffering from what appeared to be a chest wound and transported him to Albert Einstein Medical Center.

Victim was shot during attempted robbery

Hospital staff later determined the victim had actually sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. He was listed in stable condition.

The preliminary investigation determined the shooting occurred on the 900 block of East Price Street, where officers located the victim’s black 2022 Honda CR-V.

Investigators said the victim, who works as a car service driver, had arrived to pick up a passenger when an unknown suspect approached the vehicle.

Suspect fled without taking property

According to police, the suspect first opened the rear passenger door before closing it and moving to the front passenger side. After opening the front passenger door, the suspect announced a robbery and displayed a blue handgun.

The victim attempted to get out of the SUV and run away but was struck once in the chest after hearing a single gunshot. Police said no property was taken during the attempted robbery.

The suspect is described as a Black male between 16 and 18 years old with a thin build and clean-shaven face. He was last seen wearing a red-and-black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.
