Queens, NY – Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz has announced that a 16-year-old has been indicted for first-degree assault and first-degree robbery. The charges are related to an incident where he pushed a 68-year-old woman down the steps of a Briarwood church, leaving her seriously injured, and stealing her purse and car. Additionally, the teenager faces charges for a separate incident of allegedly stealing another woman’s car.

District Attorney Katz condemned the assault on the woman, describing it as unconscionable. She expressed gratitude for the victim’s recovery and emphasized that serious charges have been filed against the defendant.

The 16-year-old, a resident of 89th Avenue in Jamaica, was arraigned on a 12-count indictment, with the case overseen by Supreme Court Justice Bruna DiBiase. If convicted, the defendant potentially faces up to 25 years in prison and is scheduled to return to court on May 15.
