WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ) marked the International Day to Combat Islamophobia on March 15 by condemning discrimination and urging support for Muslim communities in New Jersey and beyond.

In a statement shared on social media, Sherrill said she has heard from many constituents who have faced Islamophobia in schools, workplaces, and local communities.

“That’s unacceptable,” she wrote.

Sherrill emphasized that hate targeting any group harms society as a whole. “We have an obligation to stand with our Muslim friends and neighbors against bigotry and hate,” she added.

The International Day to Combat Islamophobia was established by the United Nations in 2022 to raise awareness and promote efforts to eliminate discrimination against Muslims worldwide.
