GAITHERSBURG, MD — A Silver Spring man is in custody after allegedly assaulting a woman and attempting to rape her in Rockville early Friday morning, with patrol officers arresting the suspect minutes later as he attempted to flee the area on a bus.

Montgomery County Police have charged 25-year-old Jerrell Lee Fullwood with attempted first-degree rape and two counts of first-degree assault following the incident, which occurred around 5:26 a.m. on the 9800 block of Medical Center Drive.

According to investigators, an adult female was walking to a nearby bus stop when she was attacked. Officers responded to the scene and obtained a description of the suspect. Within minutes, they located a man matching the description on a bus in the area. Officers boarded the vehicle and took Fullwood into custody without incident.

Detectives reviewed surveillance video showing the suspect walking behind the victim just before the assault. The footage, combined with witness accounts, led to Fullwood’s arrest.
