A Thursday night gunshot wound sent one man to the hospital and police on the hunt for answers in Southwest Baltimore.

BALTIMORE, Md. — A 24-year-old man was hospitalized Thursday night after being shot in the leg near West Fayette Street in Southwest Baltimore, prompting an investigation by district shooting detectives.

ShotSpotter alert leads officers to shooting victim

Responding to a ShotSpotter alert for gunfire, officers arrived in the 1500 block of W. Fayette Street and located evidence of a shooting at the scene. A short time later, police received a separate call for a shooting victim found inside a home in the 1700 block of W. Lexington Street.

Inside the residence, officers discovered a 24-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the leg. Officers administered a tourniquet before the victim was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Detectives seek information in ongoing investigation

Preliminary findings indicate the shooting occurred on W. Fayette Street, and the victim made his way to a residence on Lexington Street before emergency responders arrived. The Southwest District Shooting Unit is leading the investigation and asking anyone with information to call 410-396-2488.
