MANCHESTER, NJ — A motorcyclist was killed Saturday afternoon following a crash at the intersection of State Highway 37 and Colonial Drive.
At approximately 3:22 p.m. on April 19, officers arrived at the scene to find a red 2007 Honda CBR motorcycle engulfed in flames and a white 2020 Honda Accord with significant damage to the driver’s side, according to Capt. Albert Vega of the Manchester Township Police Department.
Police reported that 24-year-old William C. Swiderski of Brick had been traveling west on Route 37 when he entered the intersection and collided with the Accord, which was heading south on Colonial Drive. The impact caused the motorcycle to burst into flames and ejected Swiderski over 140 feet onto the eastbound shoulder of Route 37.
Swiderski was transported to Community Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.
The driver of the Accord, identified as 20-year-old Job Martinez del Villar of Manchester, was also taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The roadway was closed for several hours while authorities conducted an investigation and cleared the debris. Assisting at the scene were the Manchester and Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Departments, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the New Jersey State Police.
Preliminary findings indicate that failure to obey a traffic signal and speed appear to be contributing factors. The crash remains under investigation by Patrolman Jesse Hoydis of the Manchester Police Traffic Safety Unit.
