Bronx liquor store sparks lottery frenzy after lucky ticket hits top prize

Winning Evening drawing ticket was sold at a Jerome Avenue shop in the Bronx

BRONX, N.Y. — A routine stop at a Bronx liquor store turned into a major lottery win after a top-prize TAKE 5 ticket was sold for the Saturday evening drawing, according to the New York Lottery.

The winning ticket for the May 17 TAKE 5 EVENING drawing was purchased at C & S Liquor & Wines Bronx Inc., located at 1396 Jerome Ave. in the Bronx.

Lottery officials said the ticket matched all five numbers drawn during the evening game, securing a top prize worth $27,451.50.

TAKE 5 numbers are drawn from a field of one through 39. The drawings are televised twice daily at 2:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

Winners of New York Lottery draw games have up to one year from the date of the drawing to claim their prize.

The New York Lottery said it remains the largest and most profitable lottery in North America, contributing $3.6 billion during the 2024-2025 fiscal year to support public schools across New York State.
