Bronx Zoo lights up the holidays with glowing wildlife displays and family fun

Bronx, NY – The Bronx Zoo’s annual Holiday Lights festival has returned, transforming one of New York City’s most beloved landmarks into a glowing winter wonderland now through January 4.

Running on select evenings, the seasonal event invites families to explore more than 265 acres of dazzling displays, illuminated animal lanterns, and hands-on attractions designed to capture the spirit of the holidays.

The popular winter celebration, hosted by the Wildlife Conservation Society, continues to draw visitors from across the region for its mix of entertainment, nature, and festive cheer.

Six themed trails and all-new “Freeze Zone”

This year’s edition features hundreds of lanterns arranged across six geographically themed trails, bringing to life species from around the world through light and artistry. A brand-new attraction, “The Freeze Zone,” offers kid-friendly thrills including snow tube slides, a glowing ice throne, and interactive virtual snowball games.

Guests can also journey into the “Enchanted Sea,” an indoor immersive exhibit where ocean life shimmers in vivid underwater colors. A multi-color light tunnel adds to the sensory experience, while nightly ice-carving demonstrations showcase seasonal artistry in motion.

Classic favorites return for families

Longtime visitors can enjoy the return of the Holiday Train, as well as fire pits for roasting s’mores and food stands serving warm seasonal treats such as hot cocoa, churros, and empanadas. The festival offers both daytime zoo access and special evening hours dedicated to the light displays.
