Brooklyn Police Investigating Multiple Related Groping Incidents

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Detectives are investigating a series of forcible touching incidents in Brooklyn, with at least three cases reported in the 78th Precinct over the past two months. The New York City Police Department released additional details on Friday as part of an ongoing investigation into the troubling pattern.

The first incident in this pattern occurred on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at approximately 10:25 p.m. A 41-year-old woman was walking near the intersection of 1st Street and 8th Avenue when an unidentified male approached her from behind and touched her buttocks. The suspect immediately fled the scene, and the victim was not injured.

The second incident took place on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at approximately 10:06 p.m. A 32-year-old woman was walking near the intersection of 5th Street and Prospect Park West when a male, again unidentified, approached from behind and touched her buttocks. The suspect fled the scene, and the woman was not harmed.

The most recent incident occurred on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, shortly before 1:00 a.m., in the same vicinity as the previous case. A 34-year-old woman was walking near the intersection of 5th Street and Prospect Park West when she was similarly assaulted by an unidentified male who touched her buttocks and fled.

The NYPD has not confirmed whether the same individual is responsible for all three incidents but has indicated that the cases share significant similarities. No detailed description of the suspect has been released, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

“These incidents are being taken very seriously, and our detectives are working diligently to identify and apprehend the individual responsible,” the NYPD said in a statement.

The department is increasing patrols in the area and reviewing surveillance footage as part of the investigation. Victims of the incidents have all declined medical treatment, and no injuries have been reported.
