Brooklyn subway rapist arrested by New York City Police Department

One man is in custody for rape in Midtown while another suspect is being sought for a subway sex assault in Lower Manhattan.

NEW YORK, N.Y. — A Brooklyn man has been arrested and charged with rape and other sex crimes, while police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a separate suspect wanted for an attempted rape on a Manhattan subway train.

On Thursday, May 1, at approximately 2:50 p.m., Mohammad Azeem, 36, of 1322 Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn, was arrested in the Midtown South Precinct. He faces charges including rape in the first degree, sexual abuse in the first degree, and forcible touching. Authorities have not released further details regarding the circumstances of the alleged incident leading to his arrest.

In a separate case, the NYPD is actively investigating a reported attempted rape that occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, April 26, on a northbound 1 train.

According to police, at around 4:15 a.m., an unidentified man made sexual comments and demanded money from a 27-year-old male passenger. As the train neared the Christopher Street station, the suspect forced the victim to perform a lewd act before fleeing on foot after exiting the train.


Victim hospitalized; police release image of suspect in subway incident

The victim was transported to Northwell Health Medical Pavilion and listed in stable condition. Police have released surveillance images of the suspect and are requesting the public’s help in locating him.

The incident occurred within the 6th Precinct and Transit District 2. Authorities have not confirmed whether the suspect was known to the victim or if the act was targeted or random.
