CAPE MAY COUNTY, NJ – Police departments across Cape May County have announced there will be increased police presence at area schools in the wake of a school shooting that claimed the lives of 19 students and three adults in Texas on Tuesday.

“It is with great sadness that the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and all Law Enforcement Agencies and residents of Cape May County have to mourn the death of [19] innocent children who were brutally murdered by a single 18-year-old shooter in an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas,” the Cape May Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement. “No words can adequately address the grief suffered by these families and their community, including the first responders who must address the immediate situation when many of them are directly affected. Although it appears that local law enforcement in Texas responded with valor to succumb the attacker, this is not a problem that can be solved by law enforcement. It will take our society as a whole to address all of the core issues that lead certain individuals to commit such heinous acts.”
The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and all law enforcement agencies in Cape May County will maintain a heightened presence around our schools. This is not to alarm anyone, but to provide a sense of security and a reminder of how law enforcement and all first responders are always at the ready to respond to any tragedy, the agency said in the release published on Tuesday.
