Couple found dead in University Boulevard apartment building in apparent murder‑suicide

Woman stabbed man falls to his death in University Boulevard case

Gaithersburg, MD – A domestic incident at a high‑rise apartment building on University Boulevard West ended with two 28‑year‑olds dead Wednesday afternoon after a woman was found with stab wounds in a hallway and a man was discovered outside near the pool area.

Shortly before 1 p.m., first responders were called to the Warwick Apartments in the 1100 block of University Boulevard West for reports that a man had jumped from the building. When officers and fire rescue crews arrived, they located Demetreis Lee outside, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.

As officers worked to determine where he had fallen from, they searched the building and found Andrea Guirola on the twenty‑first floor suffering from stab wounds in the hallway. Lifesaving efforts were attempted, but she was pronounced dead by medics.

A witness told investigators that Lee stabbed Guirola inside an apartment moments before she managed to reach the hallway, where she collapsed. Lee was last seen on a balcony before the fall. A knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered outside.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division’s Homicide Section are handling the investigation. Both bodies were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for official cause and manner of death determinations.
