Dad’s gift leads to $100K lottery shock in Columbus

Christmas scratch-off surprise lands Columbus man $100K win

COLUMBUS, OH — A Columbus man’s Christmas morning turned unforgettable when a scratch-off lottery ticket tucked inside his stocking revealed a $100,000 top prize — all thanks to a holiday tradition carried on by his father.

Each year, his dad buys Ohio Lottery scratch-offs for the entire family, and this season’s ticket, a Holiday Lucky Times 10, delivered more than just festive cheer. At first glance, the man believed he had won $10,000. But as he kept scratching, more matching numbers appeared — ten in total — adding up to the game’s $100,000 top prize.

The winner will receive $73,250 after mandatory state and federal taxes of 26.75%.

The winning ticket was purchased at The Kroger Co. #591, located at 350 Broad St. in Pataskala.

Holiday Lucky Times 10 is a $5 scratch-off ticket with an overall winning odds of 1 in 3.58. As of Monday, three top prizes remain unclaimed.

Since 1974, the Ohio Lottery has contributed more than $34 billion to education across the state.
