Manhunt ends after Southeast DC gun violence suspect arrested

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A Southeast DC man has been arrested weeks after police said a shooting victim drove himself to a hospital following gunfire on Mississippi Avenue.

The shooting happened around 2:15 a.m. April 15, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Investigators said officers from the Seventh District responded to a local hospital after an adult male arrived suffering from gunshot wounds.

Detectives later determined the victim had been shot earlier in the 1100 block of Mississippi Avenue Southeast before fleeing the scene and transporting himself to the hospital.

Police said an extensive investigation led detectives to identify a suspect in the case.

On Tuesday, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 26-year-old Malik Jamar Reed Long of Southeast D.C. on a DC Superior Court warrant.

Authorities charged Long with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Possession of a Firearm During a Crime of Violence.

Police did not release additional details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting or the condition of the victim.
