VERSAILLES BOROUGH, Pa. — A bank robbery investigation took an unexpected turn after detectives traced a threatening demand note back to a local elementary school worksheet, leading police to identify a suspect accused of robbing a credit union at gunpoint.

Police said the robbery happened at about 1:31 p.m. on May 8 at the Century Heritage Federal Credit Union in the 4300 block of Walnut Street.

According to investigators, a man entered the bank, handed over a note demanding money and then displayed a firearm while threatening employees before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Detectives with the Allegheny County Police Department’s General Investigations Unit launched an investigation after being requested by Versailles Police.

During the investigation, detectives noticed the paper used for the robbery note appeared to be part of a school worksheet. Investigators later confirmed the paper matched a spelling worksheet used at a local elementary school.

Police said a laboratory report from the Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner received Tuesday identified fingerprints found on the note as belonging to 39-year-old Keith Graves Jr.

Authorities have filed multiple charges against Graves, including aggravated assault, robbery and terroristic threats.

Detectives said Graves remains at large and is actively being sought by police.

He is described as standing about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing approximately 140 pounds. Police said his last known address was in Versailles Borough.
