Boston police say a gunshot victim died after officers rushed to the early morning scene

BOSTON, Mass. — A quiet early morning in Dorchester turned deadly Friday after police responding to reports of gunfire found a shooting victim suffering from critical injuries near Bowdoin Street.

Officers assigned to District C-11 responded at approximately 1:05 a.m. to the area of 260 Bowdoin Street for a reported person shot, according to the Boston Police Department.

When officers arrived, they located the victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim.

Boston Police homicide detectives have now taken over the investigation and are actively working to determine the circumstances surrounding the deadly shooting.

No arrests have been announced, and police have not released information about possible suspects.

Investigators are urging anyone with information related to the homicide to contact the Boston Police Homicide Unit at 617-343-4470.
