Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Three-Vehicle Crash on Old Furnace Road in Georgetown

A 52-year-old Lincoln man was killed and two other drivers were injured after a three-vehicle crash on Old Furnace Road in Georgetown Friday morning, according to Delaware State Police.

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal collision that shut down a stretch of Old Furnace Road for several hours Friday after a pickup truck crossed the center line and struck two oncoming vehicles.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:20 a.m. on Old Furnace Road west of Rementer Road in Georgetown. Investigators said a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling eastbound when it crossed over the dashed center lane markings into the westbound lane.

Pickup truck crossed center line

According to state police, the Chevrolet first sideswiped a westbound Toyota Sienna before continuing eastbound and colliding head-on with a Nissan Rogue.

“For reasons currently being investigated, the Chevrolet crossed over the dashed center lane markings and sideswiped the Toyota,” Delaware State Police said. “Afterwards, the Chevrolet continued eastbound, and the front of the Chevrolet struck the front of the Nissan.”

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 52-year-old man from Lincoln, Delaware, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are withholding his identity pending notification of family members.

Two other drivers injured

The driver of the Toyota, a 50-year-old woman from Georgetown, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Nissan, a 33-year-old man from Seaford, suffered serious injuries and was flown to an area hospital by the Delaware State Police Aviation Section.

Investigation remains ongoing

Old Furnace Road was closed for approximately four hours while troopers investigated the crash and crews cleared the scene.

State police have not released additional details regarding what may have caused the Chevrolet to cross into oncoming traffic. The investigation remains ongoing.
