According to multiple eyewitness accounts, the incident began inside the Safeway store. The confrontation between the security guard and another individual escalated, eventually spilling over to the nearby Waterfront Metro station, specifically on the escalators.

Both victims are expected to make a full recovery, and one individual has been taken into custody in relation to the incident. In the aftermath, the Safeway store and the Waterfront Metro station have reopened to the public.

During the investigation, Metro trains were temporarily diverted from stopping at the Waterfront station, and a shuttle service was provided to assist riders.
