EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. — East Brunswick police officers began a four-day, 300-mile ride Saturday as part of the 30th Anniversary Police Unity Tour, joining law enforcement teams from across the country traveling to Washington, D.C., to honor officers killed in the line of duty.
The East Brunswick Police Department said Team East Brunswick officially started the journey Saturday morning, heading toward the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in the nation’s capital. The annual ride supports fallen officers’ families while raising awareness for the memorial and the sacrifices made by law enforcement personnel nationwide.
Riders Honor Fallen Officers During Four-Day Journey
The Police Unity Tour has become one of the country’s largest law enforcement memorial events, bringing together active and retired officers who cycle hundreds of miles in remembrance of those who lost their lives in service.
East Brunswick police recognized both the department’s riders and support crew for their preparation and dedication leading up to this year’s event.
“The East Brunswick Police Department is proud of our riders and support team for their dedication, commitment, and the countless miles they ride in remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice,” the department said in a Facebook post Saturday.
This year’s ride marks the 30th anniversary of the Police Unity Tour, an event that began in New Jersey and has expanded into a nationwide movement involving agencies from across the United States.
National Memorial Ride Connects Departments Across Country
Participants in the tour travel to Washington ahead of National Police Week observances, where memorial ceremonies recognize officers whose names are added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.
The event also serves as a fundraising and awareness campaign supporting memorial programs and survivor initiatives tied to fallen law enforcement officers.
East Brunswick police said the tour brings officers together with a shared mission of remembrance and support for surviving family members.
“The Police Unity Tour brings law enforcement officers together from across the country to honor fallen officers, support their families, and raise awareness for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial,” the department said.
