Fatal Hit and Run in D.C. Under Investigation

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A tragic hit and run in Southeast Washington has left a man dead, prompting an intensive investigation by local authorities. On July 22, at approximately 6:27 p.m., Metropolitan Police Department officers found 55-year-old Donnell Howard of Northeast D.C. injured in the roadway at the 700 block of Chesapeake Street, Southeast. DC Fire and EMS promptly transported him to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries on July 25.

The initial findings from detectives suggest that Howard was hit by a dark-colored minivan, possibly a Honda Odyssey, which then fled the scene. An autopsy by the DC’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner concluded that Howard suffered internal blunt trauma consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

The Metropolitan Police Department is seeking information from the public to help locate the driver involved in this fatal incident. Anyone with information about this hit and run is encouraged to call (202) 727-9099 or text their tip to the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.
