Massachusetts player turns routine Stop and Shop visit into multimillion-dollar windfall
DORCHESTER, Mass. — A quick stop at a Dorchester grocery store turned into a multimillion-dollar payday after a Massachusetts Lottery player hit a $10 million grand prize on a scratch ticket purchased from a self-service machine inside a Stop & Shop.
Rock Solid Trust of Reading claimed the prize from the Massachusetts State Lottery’s $10,000,000 Instant Millions instant ticket game, lottery officials announced.
The trust, represented by trustee Joshua Garick, selected the cash option and received a one-time payment of $6.5 million before taxes.
According to lottery officials, the winner plans to invest the money and help support family members.
The winning ticket was purchased from a Lottery self-service terminal at the Stop & Shop located at 545 Freeport St. in Dorchester.
The store will receive a $50,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
Lottery officials said one remaining $10 million grand prize in the $10,000,000 Instant Millions game has not yet been claimed.
