Months-long drug probe ends with major arrest and $210K cash bond
WILMINGTON, Del. — A months-long heroin investigation exploded into a major drug bust this week after Delaware State Police raided a Wilmington residence and allegedly uncovered hundreds of bags of heroin, a loaded handgun, and evidence of a drug distribution operation.
Delaware State Police announced the arrest of 33-year-old Shahir McCoy of Wilmington following a narcotics investigation that began in February.
According to investigators, detectives with the Special Investigations Unit received information that McCoy was distributing heroin in Wilmington and spent months monitoring his alleged activities.
Police said investigators observed multiple suspected drug transactions and ultimately identified a residence in the 100 block of North Franklin Street as the center of the operation.
On Wednesday, detectives, assisted by the Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team and the Wilmington Police Department, executed a search warrant at the residence.
McCoy was taken into custody without incident.

During the search, investigators reported recovering approximately 420 bags of suspected heroin, a loaded handgun, additional ammunition, approximately 26 grams of marijuana, digital scales, and other drug-related paraphernalia.
Authorities also said McCoy has a prior felony conviction that legally prohibits him from possessing firearms.
McCoy was charged with multiple felony offenses, including possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession with intent to deliver controlled substances, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, and numerous drug-related charges.
Following arraignment, he was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $210,200 cash bond.
Police noted that criminal charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
