HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is urging residents to stay off the roads due to hazardous conditions left in the wake of a recent storm. The storm caused significant damage, including debris and downed power lines, making travel potentially dangerous.
Authorities advised that if travel is unavoidable, motorists should exercise caution, particularly at intersections. Traffic lights that are not functioning should be treated as four-way stops. Drivers were also asked to yield to emergency vehicles and utility crews and to be mindful of workers clearing debris from the roads.
“Let’s work together to keep our roads accident-free during recovery,” the sheriff’s office stated in a message on Thursday.
The warning follows reports of storm-related incidents across the county, including a massive oak tree that crashed through the roof of a home in District 3 on Wednesday night. Officials cited this event as a reminder of the dangers still present in the aftermath.
Emergency services and utility workers continue to assess and address the storm’s impact, with efforts underway to clear roadways and restore essential services.
