Home invasion suspect arrested after woman wakes to intruder hovering over her in Wilkes-Barre
WILKES-BARRE, PA – A terrifying early morning break-in ended in a foot chase and arrest after a Wilkes-Barre woman awoke to find a man standing over her inside her home, threatening her before fleeing the scene.
Officers were called to a residence on Wyoming Street early Sunday following reports of a burglary in progress. The victim told police she was asleep when she woke up to find 22-year-old Jermaine Curtis inside her bedroom, making threats, including explicit statements indicating an intent to cause harm.
When she told him to leave, Curtis allegedly punched her bedroom door, causing visible damage. The woman fled the home in fear and contacted authorities.
Responding officers arrived quickly and witnessed Curtis fleeing the residence. A short foot pursuit ensued, ending with his apprehension on North Pennsylvania Avenue. He was taken into custody and transported to Wilkes-Barre City Police Headquarters for processing and arraignment.
Charges against Curtis are pending and were not specified at the time of the initial report. The victim was not physically harmed during the incident, but the case is being handled as a serious home invasion.
