Armed carjacking suspect caught months after Exxon robbery

Gaithersburg, MD – An 18-year-old from Hyattsville has been arrested and charged in connection with an armed carjacking at a Silver Spring gas station earlier this summer, according to Montgomery County Police.

The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. on Monday, June 30, at the Exxon station in the 10200 block of New Hampshire Avenue. Investigators said a dark-colored SUV pulled into the lot and blocked a Honda Accord parked near a pump. Several suspects, including Amilio Xavier Hernandez, exited the SUV and ordered the driver of the Honda out at gunpoint. The victim complied, and the suspects fled the scene in both the Honda and the SUV.

Through investigative work, detectives identified Hernandez as one of the suspects. An arrest warrant was obtained, charging him with armed carjacking and related offenses. On Wednesday, September 10, Hernandez was arrested in Hyattsville and booked into the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he is being held without bond.

Police are still searching for additional suspects linked to the case.
