Jackson mayor slams Murphy budget slash to schools in his town

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, NJ – After another state budget presented by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy included even more cuts to funding for Jackson Township schools, Mayor Michael Reina said he’s had it with the governor’s reckless budget.

Under the new state budget, the state is hitting the school district with a $6.2 million cut. Now, the school district will either have to raise taxes through a budget referendum vote or cut staff and services.

Reina said Murphy is now using children as victims in a political war against Republicans and conservative areas of the state.

Mayor Reina expressed deep dismay at the recent budget cuts made by Governor Murphy, which will result in a loss of 6.2 million dollars from the Jackson School District’s budget.

Earlier today, the Mayor was informed about a draconian budget cut that shocked him and the entire Jackson community. This is the latest cut to the Jackson School district, which has already lost nearly 20 million dollars in state aid since the Murphy administration took office.

Mayor Reina stated, “It is time for the governor to stop using our most precious commodity, our children, as political pawns. The children in Republican-led towns are being targeted simply because of political affiliations. Mr. Murphy, it is time to leave your political vendettas aside and govern on behalf of all the great New Jersey residents.

“Our children are our future, and we cannot let politics hinder their opportunities. Unfortunately, the New Jersey Education Association is enthusiastically supporting this budget. I call on the Jackson Education Association to publicly advocate on behalf of our students.”

While funding challenges remain, Mayor Reina assures the community that he will work tirelessly with the School District and our State Representatives to ensure the Jackson children receive an excellent education.

“Every child deserves a quality education and I urge the State to recognize that Jackson children are no different,” the Mayor concluded.
