Black lab mix Thor still waiting at Jackson shelter as rescue seeks foster

JACKSON, NJ – A five-year-old lab mix named Thor has spent weeks at the Northern Ocean County Animal Facility, where staff say the energetic black dog continues to be overlooked despite passing behavioral assessments and adjusting well after being surrendered by his owner.

Thor, described as approximately five years old, was surrendered by his previous owner and initially arrived at the shelter nervous. According to the Friends of Northern Ocean County Animal Facility, he has since settled in and successfully passed all required assessments.

Shelter representatives say Thor does well with other calm dogs but is not suitable for homes with cats. He is described as highly energetic, enjoys playing ball, and frequently hikes the facility’s trails. Staff report that he knows several commands and responds well to training.

A rescue organization has expressed interest in assisting Thor but is currently seeking a foster home to facilitate placement. Thor is also available for direct adoption.

Those interested in fostering are asked to contact kathleenfrett1@gmail.com to be connected with the rescue group. Prospective adopters can visit the Northern Ocean County Animal Facility at 615 Freemont Avenue in Jackson. The shelter is open daily from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
