JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Jersey City police arrested three men tied to separate shooting and homicide investigations this week, including a New York homicide suspect and two men accused in violent gun cases connected to Jersey City streets, officials announced Friday.
Two of the arrests happened during a single shift by Jersey City police officers Bryan Jeffries and Rohan Passram, who tracked down suspects wanted in cases ranging from attempted murder to a homicide investigation involving a wounded 10-year-old boy.
City officials said the arrests reflect an aggressive push by the Jersey City Police Department’s Cease Fire Unit to target violent offenders before more bloodshed happens.
Jersey City officers arrested homicide suspect wanted in New York
One of the arrests involved a homicide investigation out of Syracuse, New York, connected to an April 8 shooting that also left a 10-year-old child with a graze wound.
According to Jersey City officials, officers received a BOLO alert Thursday morning for a suspect tied to the Syracuse killing.

At about 7:35 a.m., officers Passram and Jeffries located a black 2017 Toyota Highlander with New York plates parked outside 127 Cator Avenue.
Police arrested 27-year-old Shaquan Hyppolite of Syracuse and turned him over to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office. Officials said additional details about the homicide investigation will be handled by Syracuse police.
Mayor James Solomon praised the arrests Friday, saying the cases show “the value of intelligence-driven policing” and coordination between agencies.
Rutgers Avenue shooting suspect accused of attempted murder
Later that same day, the same two officers arrested a second suspect connected to a May 6 shooting near Rutgers and Chapel avenues.
Investigators said two 23-year-old victims suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds during the shooting. One woman was shot twice in the legs, while another victim was hit in the foot.

Following an investigation by the Jersey City Police Department’s Cease Fire Unit, detectives identified 22-year-old Shahid Jamison of Jersey City as a suspect and issued a BOLO alert.
At approximately 5:22 p.m. Thursday, officers located Jamison standing with a group outside 288 Martin Luther King Drive and arrested him without incident.
Jamison now faces charges including:
- Criminal attempted murder
- Conspiracy
- Murder
- Aggravated assault
- Unlawful possession of a weapon
- Possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose
- Certain persons not allowed to possess a weapon
Officials did not explain why murder charges were filed despite the victims surviving the shooting.

Bayonne man charged in Pavonia Avenue shooting
In a separate case, Jersey City police arrested 21-year-old Jamien Sojos of Bayonne in connection with a May 7 shooting on Pavonia Avenue.
Authorities said no injuries were reported in that shooting, but investigators linked Sojos to the gunfire after follow-up investigative work.
Sojos was charged with:
- Attempted murder
- Possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose
- Unlawful possession of a weapon
- Possession of a handgun by a person under 21
- Bail jumping
Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said the arrests removed “very dangerous criminals” from the streets.
Police Chief Robert Kearns credited officers for moving quickly to locate the suspects and said the investigations demonstrate the persistence needed to solve violent crimes.
Deputy Chief Mark Conroy also emphasized the importance of cooperation between agencies, especially when investigations stretch across state lines.
The Jersey City Police Department said community tips and resident cooperation continue playing a major role in violent crime investigations throughout the city.
All charges filed against the defendants are accusations, and each suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
