September 23, 2024

UTICA, NY — Early Friday morning, police officers apprehended two juveniles near Rutger and Miller Streets for suspicious behavior.

State authorities were dispatched at approximately 2:30 a.m. after reports emerged of young males in black hooded sweatshirts and gloves acting suspiciously.

Officers later located the individuals running through backyards on the 600 block of Blandina Street and intervened.

A 17-year-old juvenile was charged with illegal possession of a loaded 9mm Glock handgun.

The other juvenile, aged 16, was taken into custody and subsequently released to a parent.

The city’s police department commended the officers from the A-Platoon team for their effective coordination and teamwork during the situation.

Further details on any potential charges and the ongoing investigation were not immediately available.

Efforts to reach relatives of the minors for comments were unsuccessful.
