Loud argument ends with arrest after repeated police warnings ignored

Cumberland disturbance ends with arrest after man refuses police orders

CUMBERLAND, MD — A loud disturbance on Valley Street escalated into an arrest after a man repeatedly refused police commands to stop disrupting the neighborhood.

Officers responded Thursday to the 400 block of Valley Street for reports of a verbal altercation inside a residence. When police arrived, they found two individuals engaged in a loud argument.

Authorities say officers repeatedly instructed both parties to cease their disruptive behavior. One of the individuals, identified as Michael Shameek Simmons, 50, refused to comply with the orders.

After continued noncompliance, Simmons was taken into custody. He was charged with disorderly conduct, failure to obey, and disturbing the peace.

Simmons was later released on his own recognizance following an initial court appearance.
