NEW YORK, NY – A 45-year-old man was stabbed multiple times Wednesday morning on the L train platform at the 14th Street–Union Square Station, police said.

The attack happened just before 10 a.m. as commuters crowded the northbound platform.

Authorities said the suspect fled on a southbound L train moments after the assault, escaping toward an unknown destination.

Victim hospitalized in stable condition

Investigators said the victim had just exited a northbound L train when he was approached by an unidentified man who stabbed him repeatedly in the back with a knife. EMS transported the injured man to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where he was listed in stable condition.

Police immediately canvassed nearby stations and platforms but were unable to locate the suspect. Officers reviewed surveillance footage from the subway system and surrounding areas in an effort to trace his movements.

Police release suspect description

The attacker is described as a man with a medium complexion, last seen wearing a black jacket, light-colored jeans, and white Nike sneakers. He was carrying a black backpack and a scooter at the time of the incident.

Detectives from the NYPD Transit Bureau are investigating the assault and reviewing camera footage from the Union Square complex. Authorities urged anyone with information to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline.
