When Strek Trek’s Captain Kirk, William Shatner actually went to space aboard a Blue Origin rocketship last month, he was joined by Gen de Vries, the CEO of Medidata Solutions.

According to NBC News, “Glen de Vries, 49, was one of two people killed when a small plane crashed in northern New Jersey, according to police. De Vries flew alongside actor William Shatner and other crew members on Blue Origin which is the private spaceflight founded by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.”

“de Vries, 49, of New York City, and Thomas P. Fischer, 54, of Hopatcong, were aboard the single-engine Cessna 172 that went down Thursday in a wooded area of Hampton Township in Sussex County,” nj.com reported.

On October 13th, de Vries and Shatner boarded Blue Origin’s New Shepard spacecraft, where the two, along with others spent 10 minutes floating in space above the earth.

Fischer was the owner of a flight school, Fischer Aviation.
