Maryland Investigates Police Pursuit That Ended With Teen Fatality in Harwood

BALTIMORE, MD – The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General is investigating a fatal crash that followed a police pursuit beginning in Calvert County and ending in Harwood, Anne Arundel County, on Monday morning.

Early on May 13, Calvert County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of car break-ins in Huntingtown. Around 5:35 a.m., deputies attempted to stop a suspect vehicle near Plum Point Road and Ridge Road, but it fled, leading deputies on a 25-mile pursuit into Anne Arundel County.

The suspect vehicle collided with a pick-up truck at the intersection of Birdsville Road and Solomons Island Road in Harwood.

The pick-up truck driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital. The three occupants of the fleeing car were also hospitalized. The front seat passenger, a juvenile female, was later pronounced dead.

The driver suffered critical injuries, while the rear passenger had non-life-threatening injuries.
