Man indicted for fatal Columbus shooting after arrest in Florida two months later
COLUMBUS, OH – A man accused in the deadly October shooting of 30-year-old Tyris Sowell has been indicted on multiple charges after being captured out of state, Columbus police confirmed Tuesday.
The shooting occurred on October 7, 2025, at approximately 11:01 a.m., in the 3000 block of Templeton Road. Officers responding to a reported shooting found Sowell suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:26 a.m.
Later that same day, investigators obtained a murder warrant for 30-year-old Shaquir Cromwell. Following a two-month search, Cromwell was located and arrested on December 12 in Hollywood, Florida.
On January 7, 2026, a grand jury indicted Cromwell on charges of aggravated murder, felonious assault, and tampering with evidence. Details surrounding the motive or events leading up to the shooting have not yet been released.
