New Castle man arrested for multiple robberies

September 17, 2024

WILMINGTON, Del. — Delaware State Police arrested 27-year-old Christopher Trexler of Newark on Monday for a string of attempted robberies and thefts across New Castle County.

The incidents began around 10:20 a.m. on September 16, when troopers responded to a report of an attempted robbery at Best Buy, located at 4807 Concord Pike, Wilmington. According to investigators, Trexler approached an employee to purchase an Apple product and a video game console. While the employee was processing the sale, Trexler allegedly walked behind the counter, pinned the employee against a shelf, and attempted to steal the merchandise. Best Buy employees intervened, leading to a brief physical altercation during which Trexler claimed to have a knife before fleeing on foot. No injuries were reported.

Approximately two hours later, at 12:30 p.m., troopers were called to GameStop at 4437 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, for a similar robbery attempt. Trexler reportedly handed a demand note to an employee, claiming he was armed with a knife, and attempted to steal scissors from behind the sales counter. A struggle ensued, and the employee was able to throw the scissors away from Trexler before chasing him out of the store. The employee sustained minor injuries but declined medical treatment.

Later, at 1:30 p.m., Trexler attempted to steal a video game console from another Best Buy, located at 2700 Fashion Center Boulevard, Newark. Troopers arrived at the scene and apprehended Trexler nearby with the stolen merchandise.

Investigators linked Trexler to several thefts reported between September 13 and 14. He was charged with multiple offenses, including attempted robbery and shoplifting. Trexler was arraigned and is being held at Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $41,000 cash bond.
