Police are searching for a suspect accused of targeting a location with religious vandalism in an early-morning incident.

New York, NY – The NYPD is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect wanted in connection with a hate crime incident earlier this month in Lower Manhattan.

According to police, the incident occurred Monday, March 9, at approximately 4:30 a.m. in front of 143 State Street. An unidentified man allegedly threw pieces of a religious book onto the front steps of the location before leaving the scene.

Authorities said the individual later returned and smeared an unknown substance on the building’s door before fleeing eastbound on State Street.

Suspect sought in early morning vandalism

Police have classified the incident as a hate crime and say the investigation remains ongoing.
