One-year-old overdoses on fentanyl in New Kensington home

New Kensington child given Narcan after overdose scare

NEW KENSINGTON, PA – A 32-year-old woman is facing multiple charges after a one-year-old child in her care suffered an apparent fentanyl overdose, prompting a frantic emergency response and the discovery of additional drugs in the home.

On November 14, first responders were called to a residence on Campbell Avenue in New Kensington after reports of a child in medical distress. The caller, later identified as Kylie Ritchie, told 911 she had administered Narcan to the child prior to their arrival.

Police and EMS crews found the child unresponsive and exhibiting symptoms consistent with opioid overdose, including breathing difficulties. First responders provided airway support to stabilize the child while continuing medical treatment on scene.

Following the incident, New Kensington Police obtained consent to search the home. Inside a back bedroom, officers located 20 stamp bags containing suspected fentanyl and drug paraphernalia. According to investigators, all of the items were stored in areas easily accessible to the three children who lived in the residence.

Ritchie, of Arnold, was arrested and charged with several counts of endangering the welfare of children and possession of a controlled substance. She was arraigned and released on $50,000 unsecured bond.

The child’s current medical condition has not been disclosed. The investigation remains active, and child welfare officials have been notified.

Authorities reminded the public that all individuals charged with crimes are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
