Pedestrian killed in Route 322 crash in Hamilton Township

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. – A woman from Buena was struck and killed Wednesday night while attempting to cross Route 322 in Hamilton Township, authorities said.

Officers were called to the area near Custard Castle around 7:38 p.m. for reports of a crash involving a pedestrian. Investigators said a 2021 Hyundai Tucson, driven by Debbie Rice, 56, of Pittsgrove, was traveling westbound when it struck Deserie Cincotti, 48, who was crossing the roadway outside of a crosswalk.

Fatal impact

Emergency responders pronounced Cincotti deceased at the scene. Rice was not injured in the collision. A section of Route 322 was closed for several hours as police investigated.

Ongoing investigation

The crash remains under investigation by the Township of Hamilton Police Department, with assistance from the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Crash Investigations Unit, the Hamilton Rescue Squad, and the Mays Landing Fire Department.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Township of Hamilton Police Department.
