Philadelphia Man Charged After Allegedly Breaking Into Ex-Partner’s Bensalem Home and Damaging Property

A Philadelphia man was arrested after police say he broke into a Bensalem Township home, damaged property, and was later identified through the homeowners’ surveillance cameras.

A Philadelphia resident is facing burglary charges after Bensalem police say he unlawfully entered a home and caused damage before being located nearby and taken into custody.

Officers responded to the 2800 block of Forrest Avenue at approximately 9:40 p.m. on June 18 for a report of an unknown problem, according to the Bensalem Police Department.

When officers arrived, homeowners told police that a man had broken into their residence and damaged property inside the home.

Investigators learned the suspect was known to the victims through a prior relationship.

Surveillance Video Leads to Identification

Police said the suspect’s actions were captured on the homeowners’ surveillance cameras.

Using the footage and information provided by the residents, officers were able to identify the suspect as 40-year-old Keith Torpey of Philadelphia.

Authorities quickly searched the surrounding area and located Torpey a short distance from the residence.

He was arrested without incident.

Multiple Charges Filed

Following the investigation, Torpey was charged with:

  • Burglary
  • Criminal Trespass
  • Loitering and Prowling at Night

Police did not release additional details regarding the extent of the property damage.

Bail Set at $25,000

Torpey was arraigned before District Judge Timothy Barton.

The judge set bail at 10 percent of $25,000.

Following arraignment, Torpey was remanded to the Bucks County Correctional Facility.

As with all criminal defendants, Torpey is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
